Some demonstration recommendations from the minds at Wolf Cinema:

Of late the K’Scape Strato UHD/4K platform is our preferred demo platform.  Their transfers are quite good – often superior to any BR or UHD disc releases, but we’re fussy.    At CES this year we demonstrated from the following:

Film/TV –

  • Logan Lucky  – some of the best HDR color/film quality we’ve seen in UHD
  • Blade Runner 2049 (HDR)
  • Atomic Blonde (HDR)
  • Spider-Man: Homecoming (HDR)
  • Passengers (HDR)
  • Lucy (HDR)
  • Ghost In The Shell (HDR)
  • The Bridge on the River Kwai
  • The Fifth Element (HDR)
  • A Few Good Men
  • Lawrence of Arabia
  • Rocky Mountain Express- IMAX film transfer (HDR)
  • National Geographic’s Great Migrations (60Hz TV content)
  • Sojourns (HDR)
  • Angry Birds (HDR) not bad…

Music –

We use Crossroads 10 disc quite a bit.  Stellar Tedeschi/Trucks band opening tracks, plus the John Meyer stuff is fabulous.  Excellent video fidelity too, not 4K but you don’t miss it here.  Hard to find great concert footage that is also bright, colorful, punchy.

Currently evaluating HD editions of Sam Robson’s work  – I think one of these would be fun to include in our future demo kit as he crafts some amazing arrangements, has quite the vocal chops plus they are fun visually…  if you don’t know him check out his arrangements of The Jungle Book – I Wanna Be Like You, The Lion King etc – he has quite a few that would be compellinghttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9rqoXhRpbIJ2N867HeEUZQ  Problem of course may be that the transfers may not hold up on better gear, not the necessary AV fidelity etc.  His choral/spiritual work is excellent, this is one of my favs – I probably listen to it three times a week – 7ths, 9ths all kinds of goodies mixed in there:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3wSbLa2uGg
